Tasha’s Epic Quadrennial Olympics Analysis
Day 1
I can’t believe it’s been 4 years (actually 3 with the COVID delay) but here we go…
- The introduction with Steven Spielberg started me off all in my feelings. Looks like I’ll be doing a lot of crying over the next 16 days.
- I would never have paired Kelly Clarkson with Peyton Manning, but it seemed to work. But you know who would’ve been a great person to be reporting from the ground…Don Lemon!
- God bless the person who appointed the Snoop D O double G as the harbinger of peace, love, and unity.
- Another crying moment…seeing Steph Curry, a 4 time national champion, getting giddy as a first time Olympian.
- The video with the kids traversing the underbelly of Paris like some Goonies looking for One-Eyed Willy’s treasure might’ve been a bit too Avant Garde for me. Actually, I think that whole torch passing sequence might’ve been too Avant Garde for me (and it was a bit too long).
- The synchronicity segment was absolutely gorgeous but you can go ahead and add dangling from scaffolding on Notre Dame to things you don’t have to ever worry about me doing. For that matter, you can also add swinging back and forth like a metronome on the pole thingy to that list too.
- I know performing in the rain wasn’t ideal but it really did add a sense of romance and drama to the opening ceremonies which felt very apropos for Paris.
- I wonder what the discussions were like when it came to who would and who would not ride on the boats together. Speaking of boats, why did they have Surname in that itty bitty rowboat?
- Dang, the surfers got it good. They get to compete in Tahiti.
- Sis singing the French national anthem on top of the Grand Palais was everything. That last note gave me chills.
- I loved how all of Paris was integrated into the opening ceremonies. I was confused by the whole Minions segment until Mike and them told me that the Illumination studio was in Paris.
- It just wasn’t the same without my oiled up boo from Tonga walking in the Parade of Athletes.
- Another weeping moment…seeing Imagine performed with the flaming piano floating down the river.
- Last weeping moment…Celine Dion. I have no words, just tears.
- Overall, kudos to the artistic director of the opening ceremonies.
