Tasha’s Epic Quadrennial Olympics Analysis

Day 8

  • It’s track and field time!!!
  • Team USA began on a high note. With his bronze medal finish, Grant Fisher became only the 4th American man to medal in the 10,000m. No, I didn’t watch the whole race. For any race over 800m, I tune in when the last lap bell is rung.
  • It doesn’t matter if it’s women’s, men’s, or mixed, the 4x400m is my jam!
  • If you missed the first heat of the mixed 4x400m, you literally missed a record setting performance by Team USA. Shamier Little took off during that second leg and it was over for the other teams thereafter.
  • Ryan Crouser. That’s all I have to say. Hook’em!
  • Yesterday was Sha’Carri Richardson’s Olympic debut. She easily breezed through to the semis in the 100m.
  • Team Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce announced she was retiring after these Olympic games. I’m in my feelings. How’s she gonna just leave me like that???
  • Springboard diving scares me much less than platform diving.
  • There was almost an upset at the aquatics center. Team China narrowly beat out Team Mexico for the gold in men’s 3m springboard.
  • In order to pay for the trip to Paris, Team Mexico had to raise funds by selling towels and swimsuits and even considered auctioning off its Olympic medals because its national funding was cut. In the 11th hour, Aeromexico sponsored the team.
  • Team Mexico is just one example of the financial barriers to Olympic competition. Shout out to Flava Flav and Alexis Ohanian for helping to cover Team USA’s discus thrower Veronica Fraley’s rent while she’s competing.
  • I thought it was strange that Canyon Barry from Team USA’s 3×3 basketball team shot his free throws underhand. Turns out, it’s an homage to his father, Hall of Famer Rick Barry who also shot underhanded and had a .880 and .900 free throw percentage in the ABA and NBA, respectively.
  • Lucky number 4…so far Leon Marchand is 4 for 4 in gold medals. This makes him only the 4th swimmer to win 4 individual medals in a single Olympics.
  • Lastly, y’all remember that white puffy swim coat I said I wanted. Turns out, it costs $499. Guess who won’t be getting a white puffy swim coat.
